Daniel Coulet
The artist‘s secret garden
Daniel Coulet is a designer, painter and sculptor whose renown has long crossed over frontiers. He makes his mark on spaces and plants monumental works as one plants trees so that they blossom. His audacious bronze irises are collectors’ items throughout the world. This lover of nature as much as of architecture has also shaped with his hands arches drawing their vaulting energy from the ground, defying the laws of balance, tracing waves on the horizon and creating vibrations. He has caused flowers and monumental trees to appear (L’Arbre fleur and Fleur stalagmite) even in the Toulouse Metro. A way of approaching passers-by and inviting them to look at their environment in a different way. Having grown up in the country, in contact with horses — another source of inspiration for him —, “He constantly works for the town-dwellers” states the art critic Pierre Cabanne. It is not surprising therefore that he has also paid special attention to the lighting poles dotting our towns and villages. He said to himself that he could bring fantasy and power to these alignments so that they would be seen in a different light.
