Yann Desforges

In the mysteries of light

At 50 years old, the loquacious Yann Desforges voluntarily defines himself as a “stirrer of ideas”. More often than not, they take shape. And what a shape! With a breath of creativity he can transform his dreams, his sketches, into concrete, innovative and aesthetic objects. These posts will mark out the public space and transform the landscape. “To be like a fly”, as he says, this lighting designer draws on long experience in the highly technical lighting industry. Trained in mechanical engineering in his youth, and subsequently a DPLG architect – studying at the University of Illinois for a master’s degree in architecture and landscaping —, also having worked for the company Philips Lighting in the course of an already well-rounded career, this lighting engineer can draw on solid skills before giving free rein to his inspiration, mainly from nature. He is enamoured, he readily admits, with «flexibility, elegance and sobriety». He considers «The emotional charge is contained in every diurnal silhouette». On the strength of this global view, Yann Desforges has constantly explored the mysteries of the light to extract its quintessence. He does this on the instructions of a small company called Pixelum Eclairage & Design (Pixelum Lighting and Design). “Light and image are universal languages; to marry pixels and light was a natural thing”. He is called upon for interior and exterior lighting, and also nowadays for natural lighting audits. Quick to conceive and create “new ambiances”, Yann Desforges has not finished with stirring ideas.
